Foresta Fossile (Fossil Forest) is Pietro Ruffo’s monumental installation for the Luigi Boldrini Palaeontological Museum in Pietrafitta. The work, conceived as a large textile curtain enveloping the collection, transforms the museum into an immersive space where art, science and memory interact. Created together with the local community through workshops dedicated to the climate and geological history of the area, it reinterprets the lush vegetation of 1.5 million years ago: oaks, elms, walnuts, hazelnuts, firs and many other species that once populated the valley, traces of which are preserved in lignite. The installation enhances the cylindrical architecture of the museum, offering a sensory journey that connects man, the environment and deep time. With this project, Ruffo continues his research into the relationship between nature, history and freedom, contributing to the cultural regeneration of the area and strengthening the bond between the museum and the community.
Foresta Fossile è la monumentale installazione di Pietro Ruffo per il Museo Paleontologico Luigi Boldrini di Pietrafitta. L’opera, concepita come un grande sipario tessile che avvolge la collezione, trasforma il museo in uno spazio immersivo dove arte, scienza e memoria dialogano. Realizzata insieme alla comunità locale attraverso workshop dedicati al clima e alla storia geologica del territorio, reinterpreta la rigogliosa vegetazione di 1,5 milioni di anni fa: querce, olmi, noci, noccioli, abeti e molte altre specie che un tempo popolavano la valle, le cui tracce sono conservate nella lignite. L’installazione valorizza l’architettura cilindrica del museo, offrendo un percorso sensoriale che mette in relazione uomo, ambiente e tempo profondo. Con questo progetto, Ruffo continua la sua ricerca sul rapporto tra natura, storia e libertà, contribuendo alla rigenerazione culturale del territorio e rafforzando il legame identitario tra museo e comunità.
