The Liberty House is a place for inner reflection. The plain wood surface outside and the richness of particulars on the inside create a contrast that invites us in. Here, immersed in a vibrant green ink forest are the verses of the Lebanese poet, philosopher and artist Khalil Gibran. Thanks to the carving technique the words are in relief and rise out of the two-dimensional panel conferring structure to the walls inside. The mirrors on the ceiling also serve for introspection, the sight cannot go further but is reflected right back on ourselves.
With Liberty House the artist reflects on freedom as an intimate human condition not affected by external factors. While during the Arab Spring the kind of freedom sought was from
a despot, from something or someone, Khalil Gibran invites us to consider freedom as a feeling to be found within ourselves.
And if it is a despot you would dethrone, see first that his throne erected within you is destroyed.

Liberty House è il luogo della riflessione interiore. Attraverso un gioco visivo fra la semplicità del legno allʼesterno, e la ricchezza dei particolari dellʼinterno, lʼartista ci invita a scoprire una vibrante foresta verde disegnata a china che fa da sfondo ai versi di Khalil Gibran, poeta, filosofo e artista libanese. Le parole emergono dal piano bidimensionale tramite la tecnica dellʼintaglio, conferendo plasticità alla superficie interna.
Gli specchi sul soffitto sono un ulteriore espediente per guardarsi dentro richiamo a un atteggiamento introspettivo: lo sguardo non prosegue oltre ma ritorna verso noi stessi. Con Liberty House, Pietro Ruffo riflette e fa riflettere sul concetto di libertà come condizione intima dellʼuomo, non vincolata da fattori esterni.
Se durante i moti della Primavera araba si auspicava una la libertà da un despota, quindi desiderio di una libertà da qualcosa o qualcuno, Khalil Gibran ci invita a riflettere sul valore della libertà come sentimento che va ricercato dentro di noi.
